Welcome to my website! My name is Melissa. If you’re here because you want to or are interested invest in a capsule wardrobe, you’re at the right place! If you’re wondering what exactly is a capsule wardrobe, you’re also at the right place!
A capsule wardrobe is essentially a wardrobe with minimal amounts of clothing in it. It’s the fashion branch of minimalism. There isn’t an official definition to see how small it has to be, but the general consensus is under 40 pieces of clothing. I say clothing, but I mean clothing, shoes, jackets, accessories, everything*. It’s sort of like packing for vacation—you would want your favourite outfits with you. Note to soon to be college students: You will have limited space in your dorm. A capsule wardrobe is perfect to make sure you make a good impression but still have a small wardrobe. You can find one particular way of building a capsule wardrobe called the 333 method here or you can find out how I built my capsule wardrobe here! Some people say that a capsule wardrobe is supposed to exist for all four seasons, some will build a new one for each season. This is down to interpretation and personal choice, but if you do build a new one each season, there is no reason not to reuse a couple pieces from the past season! Remember, a capsule wardrobe is supposed to be full of timeless classics that can be reworn for years, not just a single season. If you buy 40 fast fashion pieces for the season and throw them all away, that is not a capsule wardrobe. Because you have so few clothes, you want to focus on high quality basics that can be worn for many wears. You want things that fit well and aren’t part of some trend. For example, a good black dress will never go out of fashion, and neither will a pair of well-fitted heels. This particular dress has been in my family for over 30 years; it’s a favourite of my mother’s! Building a capsule wardrobe off high quality basics will guarantee you a wardrobe that can still fit all your needs. *excluding underwear, pyjamas, occasionally workout clothes |
