This really is some simple maths. Although it may seem counterintuitive, quality clothes that cost more are more cost effective than fast fashion clothes that seem to be cheaper. A higher quality shirt may cost a bit more, but it will also last you much longer. A $10 dollar tee that falls apart after a few wears is far less cost effective than a basic white tee that may cost $50 but also can last for decades. For example, this one dress, although seemingly expensive, has proven that its price tag is worth it. It’s been in my family for over 30 years, and can be dressed up or down as the occasion requires. Classic, check! Basic, check! Versatile, check!
I’m sure that everyone knows why Mark Zuckerburg wears the same t-shirt everyday—he says it’s to save him from stressing out about what to wear everyday. You have only so much decision making power in a day; why use it on something as mundane as what will you be wearing? If you had 40 tops and 40 bottoms that may or may not match, what do you do? Probably grab your favourite outfit and go. A capsule wardrobe takes away the decision-making—any two things you grab will match, because everything is in neutral and you’ve carefully selected each item so that everything would match.
